About The Renovations @ 65 East

Place of Grace and Gladness

The renovation project at 65 E. Huron, the home of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago and St. James Cathedral – St. James Commons – has made great progress during this warm winter.  The south plaza is nearly complete and the larger north plaza will be completed early this fall.  The plaza facing Huron will include a garden and labyrinth which will welcome visitors, lunch-goers, and those seeking a quiet place from the busy-ness of the city.

The renovated plaza will lead visitors toward a newly-constructed entrance that will make diocesan headquarters, St. James Cathedral, and Episcopal Charities and Community Services accessible to all. The first floor will be transformed into a bright, art-filled, technologically sophisticated gallery, made comfortable year-round by updated HVAC systems and suitable for receptions, classes and other events.  Additionally, the lower level of the office building will be outfitted with new bathrooms, a new kitchen, and a new accessible elevator.

The anticipated completion date for the project is February 2013 with the majority of exterior work being completed by October 2012. This blog will be updated weekly with news about our progressing renovations.
